Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards are announced for 2022 and 2023 on 27 February 2024. The Sangeet Natak Akademi General Council, and the National Academy of Music, Drama, and Dance had a meeting on 21 and 22 February for the Akademi fellowship of 2024.

Recently, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India’s National Academy of Music, Drama, and Dance, announced the prestigious Akademi Puraskar (Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards) for the years 2022 and 2023. The Sangeet Natak Akademi also announced Fellowships, also called Akademi Ratna.
According to the meeting held in Delhi, this year six eminent personalities were elected for Akademi Ratna or Akademi Fellowship. The council has selected 92 artists for the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards from the fields of Music, Theater, Dance, Folk/ Traditional/ Dance/ Tribal Music/ Puppetry/ and overall contribution to the Performing Arts (2022 and 2023).
The Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards is a great honor for artists. It is a seventy-year-old institution that facilitates the nation’s highest achievement in music, dance, theater, and drama.
The award has a history dating back to 1952, the first award was conferred in 1952. In 1961m the Sangeet Natak Akademi got recognition as a Society under the Societies Registration Act. The Akademi is an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Culture and got its funds from the government of India.
The Akademi is mainly focused on preserving the extremely diverse culture, music, and forms of art of the nation and promoting them.

Recipients of Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards 2024
The Sangeet Natak Akademi will award 92 artists from various fields of music, theater, dance, traditional/ tribal music/ folk/ puppetry/ dance/ and overall scholarship/ contributions in the Performing Arts of India for 2022 and 2023 year.
The awardees of Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2022 include S Noyonshakhi Devi (Manipuri Dance), Yumnam Sadananadra Singh (Mime theater), Sapam Kullabi Singh ( Music – Nata Pung) and various other artists.
The recipients also include Singer Bombay Jayashri, actors Ashok Saraf and Rajeev Verma, and various other artists who have done well or taken the Indian culture to new heights with their performing Arts.
Alongside the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards, the organizations have also announced the names of 80 recipients for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the same year.
Sangeet Akademi Fellowship Recipients 2024
The General Council of Sangeet Natak Akademi presents a fellowship to preserve the various art forms of India. The fellowship is limited to 40 individuals at any given time and is awarded for individual contributions to the performing arts. The recipients are recognized as exceptional artists in their fields like Theater, Music, Dance, and many more Indian Cultural Arts.
On the meeting of 21 and 22 February, the council and the National Academy of Music, Drama, and Dance selected 6 unanimous personalities for the Akadmi Ratana or Akademi Ratna Sadasyata or Akademi Fellowships.
The six Akademi Fellows who have contributed to the performing arts in India are:
- R Visweswaran (Venna Player)
- Vinayak Khedekar (Author and Folklorist)
- Couple Raja and Radha Reddy (Kuchipudi Dancing Pair)
- Sunayana Hazarilal (Kathak Dancer)
- D.P Sinha (Playwright)
- Dulal Roy (Theater Director)
Prize Money for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards and Akademi Fellowship
The Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardees will receive a prize of Rs. 1 Lakh with an Angavastram (shawl) and a Tamrapatra (citation plaque).
The Akademi Fellows will receive a prize of Rs 3 Lakh with an Angavastram and a Tamrapatra.
The awards will be presented to the winners in a special ceremony by the President of India. The date of the ceremony is not revealed yet.
The recipients of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Awards will receive prize money of Rs 25,000 with the Angavastram (shawl) and a Tamrapatra (citation plaque) in a ceremony by the Chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademi.
