After returning from the event of Shri Ram Mandir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced Pradhan Mantri Surya Uday Yojana, under which solar panels will be installed on one crore houses. Pradhan Mantri Suryoday Yojana is a central scheme, under which solar panels will be installed on more than one crore houses. Rooftop solar panels will be installed, which will provide people with clean energy sources. Also, it aims to promote self-reliance in the energy sector.
The scheme is the latest effort to help reach the 40 GW rooftop solar capacity target.
The aim is to build solar power systems on rooftops of residential consumers. The scheme will also fulfill India’s goal of becoming self-reliant in the energy sector and reduce the electricity bills of the poor and middle class.
Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana aims to include poor and middle class people in the rooftop solar program.
One of the main goals of the Modi government is to promote the rooftop solar program. This is not the first example of such a scheme by the government. The government had done this earlier also. The government launched the Rooftop Solar Program in 2014, with the aim of achieving 40,000 MW of solar capacity by 2022.
According to MNRE website, India will have about 73.31 GW of solar power installed capacity by December 2023. Currently, the rooftop solar capacity by December 2023 will be around 11.08 GW. Energy demand in India is expected to grow the most over the next 30 years than any other country or region in the world. Such programs can meet India’s energy needs.

Who will get the benefit of this scheme:
- Only Indians will take advantage of this scheme.
- For this scheme, the annual income of the applicant should not be more than Rs 1 or 1.5 lakh.
- All documents must be correct at the time of applying.
- The applicant should not be connected to government service.
Under Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana, rooftop solar panels will be installed in more than one crore houses. People will get electricity from these solar panels.
