NDA Exam 2024 – The NDA Exam is conducted twice a year and is conducted in offline mode and is conducted in both Hindi and English. For individuals with unshakeable aspirations to serve their country through the Indian Armed Forces, the NDA exam 2024 or the National Defence Academy exam serves as a recognised entryway. The NDA exam 2024, which is administered by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is more than just a test; it is a place where aspirations, tenacity, and bravery collide. The article provides the candidates an understanding of the NDA Exam 2024, with a detailed insight into NDA 2024 Eligibility criteria, syllabus, application form among other things. 

 

What is NDA?

The NDA (National Defence Academy) exam is a highly competitive examination in India conducted by UPSC. For young men and women wanting to join the Indian Armed Forces, which include the Army, Navy, and Air Force, it acts as the starting point. Candidates must be citizens of India and have successfully passed the 12th grade. The Services Selection Board will interview candidates and administer a written test as part of the selection process. Successful applicants are accepted into the NDA for a three-year training course, after which they are commissioned as military officers. NDA officers serve in a variety of capacities, strengthening national security and providing military leadership.

NDA 2024 Application Form

The NDA 2024 application form is a crucial document for candidates seeking to join the National Defence Academy. It requires personal and academic information, photo uploads, and a fee payment to initiate the selection process.

 

How to download the NDA 2024 Application Form?

To successfully complete the NDA 2024 application form and prevent potential rejection, adhere to these guidelines: 

Step 1- Visit the official NDA 2024 website at

Step 2- If you have not previously registered for the NDA exam (One Time Registration), complete the NDA 2024 registration by providing essential personal and contact information.

Step 3- Login using valid credentials, which may include your Email ID and OTP/Password, Mobile number and OTP/Password, or OTR ID and OTP/Password generated during NDA 2024 registration.

Step 4- The NDA 2024 application form is divided into two parts, which encompass providing additional details, fee payment, uploading scanned documents, including your signature, photo identity card document, selecting your preferred exam center, and agreeing to the declaration.

Step 5- Thoroughly review all the information provided in the NDA application form 2024, and make any necessary edits.

 

Step 6- Keep in mind that once submitted, you won’t be able to modify the details in your NDA 2024 application.

Step 7- Upon submission, a registration number will be generated. Download it as a PDF file and print it for your records.

 

NDA 2024 Application Form: Document Required 

Candidates should have the following documents when filling out the NDA 2024 Application Form:-

 

  • Details of one photo ID viz. Aadhar Card/ Voter Card/ PAN Card/ Passport/ Driving License/ School Photo ID/Any other photo ID Card issued by the State/Central Government
  • Active email id and mobile number
  • Scanned photograph and signature
  • Valid photo ID card details
  • Other NDA exam registration details/documents and certificates (if applicable). Basic personal and academic details NDA form fee payment details – Visa/Master/Rupay debit or credit card/UPI payment or by using internet banking of any bank etc

NDA Application Withdrawal

Candidates who might have a change of heart and decide not to participate in the exam can opt to withdraw their NDA 2024 application through the official withdrawal link. This link will become active on the official website shortly after the application deadline has passed. The withdrawal link will be accessible on the official site.

UPSC will provide a distinct link for this purpose, where candidates will need to complete the process of withdrawing their NDA 2024 application by verifying their registered mobile number and email address. The withdrawal link will be made available a few days after the application window closes. For those candidates who wish to retract their NDA 2024 application, this link will be the avenue to do so and will be updated here then. 

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria are meticulously outlined by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), establishing the foundational prerequisites for entry into the NDA 2024. Aspiring candidates, often in the prime of their youth, must meet these stringent standards, which encompass age limitations, educational qualifications, and nationality requirements among other things.

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Nationality 

To be eligible for the NDA, an applicant must be unmarried and must meet one of the following nationality requirements:

  1. Be an Indian citizen.
  2. Be a citizen of Nepal.
  3. Be a person of Indian origin who has migrated from countries such as Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam, with the intention of permanently settling in India. 

Candidates falling under categories (2) and (3) must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India, with the exception of Gorkha subjects of Nepal who do not require such a certificate.

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Age Limit

To be eligible for NDA 2024, candidates should fall within the age range of 16.5 to 19.5 years at the start of the course. This implies that for NDA 1 2024, candidates’ birthdates should fall between July 2, 2005, and no later than July 1, 2008.

It is important to emphasize that there are no concessions in terms of age for any category of applicants, and meeting this requirement is a mandatory condition for being considered for admission to the NDA. Candidates are strongly advised to carefully examine the information for NDA 2024 to ensure they have the most up-to-date and accurate understanding of the age criteria and other eligibility prerequisites for the examination.

 

Candidates should carefully go through the following information for NDA 2024 to ensure they possess the most up-to-date and accurate knowledge of the age criteria and other eligibility prerequisites for the examination:-

 

  • The Commission strictly accepts the date of birth as recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary School Examination Certificate or an equivalent certificate at the time of application submission, and requests for changing this date will not be entertained later.
  • Once candidates claim and record their date of birth with the Commission for an examination, no changes will be permitted in the future, under any circumstances or for any subsequent exams.
  • If a candidate makes an inadvertent error in indicating their date of birth in the Online Application Form, they can request correction along with supporting documents before April 16, 2023, for the National Defence Services & Naval Academy (I) Examination, 2023. 
  • The request should include specific details like the examination name, registration ID, roll number (if received), candidate’s full name, postal address from the application, and an active email address.
  • Candidates must be cautious when entering their date of birth in the Online Application Form, as any discrepancies from their Matriculation or equivalent certificate may result in disciplinary action by the Commission.

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Marital Status

Candidates are prohibited from marrying until they finish their training, and marrying during training or after a successful examination will lead to disqualification and potential reimbursement of training expenses.

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Educational Qualifications

The following are the NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria pertaining to a candidate’s Educational Qualifications:-

Army Wing

A 12th-class certificate from a school that follows the 10+2 pattern of education, or an equivalent test administered by a state education board or university.

Air Force and Naval Wings

  • 12th Class pass in the 10+2 schooling pattern with the subjects of math, physics and chemistry, or examinations equivalently administered by a state education board or a university. 
  • Candidates who are taking the 12th Class examination according to the 10+2 school education pattern, or a comparable exam, may also apply.

10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy

  • 12th Class pass in the 10+2 schooling pattern with the subjects of math, physics and chemistry, or examinations equivalently administered by a state education board or a university. 
  • Candidates who are taking the 12th Class examination according to the 10+2 school education pattern, or a comparable exam, may also apply.

 

In addition to this, the candidates need to ensure the following as well to check their eligibility for the NDA 2024:-

 

  • Candidates appearing in the 11th class exam are not eligible for this examination.
  • Candidates still awaiting qualification in the 12th class or equivalent examination, with permission to appear in the UPSC Examination, must provide proof of passing by the stipulated date as provided by UPSC, with no extensions granted for reasons like delayed exam results.
  • Candidates barred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any Commission in the Defence Services are ineligible for the examination, and if admitted, their candidature will be revoked.
  • Candidates who previously failed CPSS/PABT are now eligible for Air Force Ground Duty branches if they express their willingness in the Online Application Form on the Commission’s website.

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Physical Standard

Candidates applying for the NDA 2024 must meet the prescribed physical fitness standards as given below. Furthermore, individuals who have voluntarily resigned or been dismissed from training academies within the Armed Forces for disciplinary reasons are ineligible to apply.

 

  1. Minor Diseases 

To guarantee the successful completion of the medical examination conducted at the Military Hospital following SSB recommendations, candidates are advised to address common issues or medical conditions, including

 

  • Earwax
  • Deviated nasal septum
  • Hydrocele/phimosis
  • Weight-related concerns (overweight/underweight)
  • Undersized chest
  • Piles
  • Gynaecomastia
  • Tonsillitis
  • Varicocele

 

  1. Tattoos 

Permanent tattoos are only allowed on the inner forearm from the elbow to the wrist and the back of the hand. Any other permanent body ink is not permissible, and candidates with such tattoos will be disqualified. However, individuals from tribes with facial or body tattoos in line with their customs and traditions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

In addition to this, it is important to consider the following requirements:

  • Candidates from specific regions (North Eastern Hills, Garhwal, Kumaon, and Gorkhas) should have a minimum height of 148 cm.
  • The Flying Branch has a minimum height requirement of 163 cm.
  • The Body Mass Index (BMI) should be below 25.
  • Male candidates should have a waist-hip ratio below 0.9, and female candidates should have a ratio below 0.8.
  • Waist circumference should be less than 90 cm for men and 80 cm for women.
  • All biochemical metabolic parameters should fall within the expected range.

To be deemed medically fit, the following conditions must be met:

  • Age exceeding 20 at the time of surgery.
  • A minimum recovery period of 12 months post-LASIK.
  • A central corneal thickness of 450 or more.
  • An axial length, measured using the IOL Master, of at least 26 mm.
  • Refraction residual not exceeding +/- 1.0 D, including cylinder.
  • A healthy, normal retina.
  • Additional criteria may involve indicators for ectasia and corneal topography.
  • Candidates who have undergone kerato-refractive surgery must provide a certificate or medical records from the hospital detailing the surgery’s date and type.
  • Individuals with radial keratotomy are permanently ineligible.

  • Unfit conditions include primary or secondary amenorrhea, severe menorrhagia or dysmenorrhea, stress urinary incontinence, congenital elongation of the cervix, pregnancy, complex ovarian cysts, simple ovarian cysts exceeding six cm, endometriosis, adenomyosis, submucous fibroids, broad ligament or cervical fibroids, single fibroid uterus, congenital uterine anomalies (except for arcuate uterus), acute or chronic pelvic infections, disorders of sexual differentiation, and other conditions to be assessed individually by a gynecologist.
  • Conditions declared fit include unilocular clear ovarian cysts up to six cm and minimal fluid in the pouch of Douglas.

 

NDA 2024 General Medical Requirements for Army

  • Candidates must be in good physical and mental health, without any conditions or diseases that could hinder their military duties, regular medical visits, or medication use.

NDA 2024 Medical Standards for Navy

  • Candidates should have clear hearing, vision, and speech.

NDA 2024 Medical Standards for Air Force – Flying & Ground Duty Branches

  • Candidates with certain conditions, such as spinal fractures, nerve injuries, keloids, scarring, pigmentation abnormalities, cervical rib, bone defects, cardiovascular issues, lung pathology, hernias, splenectomy, and more, may be disqualified.
  • Specific standards and rejection apply to the structure and function of different body parts, as well as conditions like HIV, STDs, and various medical criteria for the legs, thighs, and sitting length.

Candidates with a known history or visible symptoms of certain chronic or recurrent skin conditions are considered medically unfit for service. These conditions include:

  • Any indication of leprosy will lead to rejection. This includes assessing the thickness of nerves and clinical signs of leprosy.
  • Becker’s nevus and nevus depigmentosus may be considered acceptable.
  • Vascular and intradermal nevi render candidates unfit.
  • Pityriasis Versicolor is a disqualifying condition.
  • Fungal infections, like Tinea Cruris or Tinea Corporis, anywhere on the body are not accepted.
  • Scrotal Eczema may be considered acceptable after treatment.
  • Premature graying of the hair (canities) may be accepted if it is modest and not indicative of a systemic issue.
  • Intertrigo may be deemed acceptable after the condition has healed.
  • Genital ulcers disqualify candidates. A genital examination that includes the anal and perianal areas is conducted to rule out STDs.
  • Scabies may only be considered fit after recovery.

Candidates who exhibit these skin conditions are not eligible for service.

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Dental Condition 

To ensure effective chewing, it is crucial to have an adequate number of healthy, natural teeth. Candidates are required to possess a minimum of 14 dental points to assess their oral health. The scoring system is as follows:

  • Each unsuitable tooth for efficient use is assigned one point.
  • Each essential tooth is awarded two points.
  • Incisors, canines, and first and second premolars, if present in the lower jaw, receive one point each.
  • The first, second, and fully developed third molars, if properly aligned with their counterparts in the lower jaw, are given two points each.
  • A poorly developed third molar is granted one point.

The total points can range from 20 to 22, depending on the presence and alignment of all 16 upper teeth in good functional opposition to their lower counterparts. A minimum of four of the six anterior teeth or six of the ten posterior teeth must be present, with similar upper and lower teeth functioning well in opposition to each other.

All these teeth must be in a healthy condition, with the minimum requirement being 14 points for a candidate to be considered medically fit.

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Hearing Condition 

Hearing impairment, tinnitus, or vertigo, a history of recurring ear problems, atresia, exostosis, or growths obstructing a thorough eardrum examination, unhealed perforation of the tympanic membrane, ear discharge, signs of acute or chronic suppurative otitis media, or a history of radical or modified radical mastoid surgery can all result in disqualification. The following conditions should be noted:

 

  • Current Otitis Media of any form leads to rejection.
  • During the examination, the candidate must be capable of hearing a forced whisper at a distance of 610 cm with each ear individually.
  • Rejection is warranted if the histo-pathological report indicates the presence of neoplasia or if HRCT of the temporal bone reveals partial removal or deep extension.
  • Severe deformities of the pinna that hinder the use of uniforms, personal gear, or protective equipment can be grounds for disqualification.
  • Instances of chronic otitis externa are disqualifying.
  • Exostoses, atresia, or any constriction of the external auditory meatus (EAM) that prevents a proper examination of the eardrum can result in rejection.
  • Excessive twisting of the ear canal that obscures the front view of the tympanic membrane can be cause for disqualification.
  • The presence of granulation tissue or polyps in the external auditory canal can lead to disqualification.
  • Current Otitis Media of any type is a disqualifying condition.
  • Any perforation in the attic, central area, or margin of the eardrum is disqualifying.

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Nose 

Conditions like nasal polyps, atrophic rhinitis, disorders of the accessory sinuses, and nasopharyngeal ailments, which impact the nasal bones and cartilage, will result in disqualification due to:

  • Deformities of the nasal septum.
  • The presence of nasal polyps during an examination or a history of surgical treatment for this condition will lead to denial.
  • Severe external deformities of the nose causing noticeable cosmetic irregularities may lead to rejection.
  • A significant septal deviation resulting in obstructed nasal breathing.
  • Unacceptable septal perforation.
  • The presence of atrophic rhinitis.
  • Any history or clinical signs indicative of allergic rhinitis or vasomotor rhinitis will result in disqualification.
  • Disqualification due to any infection of the paranasal sinuses.
  • Current nasal polyps will lead to rejection.

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Throat 

Medical standards related to conditions affecting the normal functioning of the mandibular joint, as well as disorders in the throat, palate, tongue, tonsils, and gums, include:

  • Acceptable: Simple tonsil hypertrophy without a history of tonsillitis cases.
  • Voice: Candidates should have a normal-sounding voice without speech impairment or larynx disease.
  • Strong stammers will not meet the fitness criteria.
  • Any ulcerative or mass lesion in the pharynx.
  • Candidates for whom tonsillectomy is recommended.
  • Presence of a cleft palate.
  • Any disabling condition of the pharynx or larynx leading to persistent hoarseness or dysphonia.
  • Conditions like chronic laryngitis, vocal cord palsy, laryngeal polyps, and growths.

 

NDA 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Neck 

Medical standards related to neck conditions include:

  • Enlargement of glands in the neck due to disorders like tuberculosis or other conditions.
  • Thyroid gland disorders.

  1. Interview Process (SSB Interview):
  • Candidates who qualify in the written examination are called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview process.
  • The SSB interview includes psychological tests, group tasks, and personal interviews.
  • It assesses candidates’ leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • The SSB interview process is conducted in two stages: Stage I and Stage II.

  1. Final Selection:
  • The final selection is based on the candidate’s performance in both the written examination and the SSB interview.

There is negative marking in both the papers that the candidate sits for in the NDA exam, i.e, Mathematics and GAT. For Paper- I, Mathematics, -0.83 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer while 2.5 marks are allotted for every right answer and for Paper- II, GAT, -1.33 will be deducted for every wrong answer while 4 marks are allotted for every right answer. 

 

The papers for all subjects will consist of objective-type questions exclusively. The question papers for Mathematics and Part “B” of the General Ability Test will be provided in both Hindi and English languages when necessary. Questions related to the metric system of Weights and Measures may be included in the question papers.

 

Candidates must personally write their answers in the exam papers and are not allowed to use a scribe for assistance. The Commission retains the discretion to determine the qualifying marks in any or all subjects of the examination. Candidates are prohibited from using calculators or mathematical/logarithmic tables to answer objective-type papers (Test Booklets) and should not bring such aids into the Examination Hall.

 

NDA 2024 Exam Pattern- Negative Marking

Military officers in the Indian Army are entitled to various allowances that supplement their regular salaries. These allowances are contingent on factors like rank, area of posting, and special duties.
