ADITI Scheme – Nurturing Innovation for India’s Defence Technologies

On 4 March 2024, the Defence Minister of India launched an ADITI (Acing Development of Innovative Technologies with iDEX) scheme to nurture young talents and innovators in defence technologies. Here’s all you need to know about the ADITI scheme.

Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister of India unveiled the scheme ADITI at DefConnect 2024 New Delhi on 4 March 2024. The scheme was launched to boost the development and accelerate innovation for the Defence technologies. 

The scheme Acing Development of Innovative Technologies with iDEX (ADITI) is part of iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) with the Defence Innovation Organization (DIO) and it will fall under the Department of Defence Production (DDP).

As the Defence Minister said, with the changing times and technologies, we need to achieve and embrace new technologies to become a developed country. This scheme will transform our country into a knowledge society. 

The duration of the ADITI Scheme is 2023-24 to 2025-26 and the total budget to implement and execute the scheme is Rs 750 crore. 

Under the scheme, the eligible youth innovators and start-ups will get financial aid up to Rs 25 Crore for the development and research of critical and strategic defence technologies.

This initiative of the Defence Ministry is expected to promote the contribution of innovators and startups in the development of cutting-edge defence technologies and nurture young talents to innovate and research.

Key Highlights of the Aditi Scheme 

The ADITI Scheme has many highlights and objectives to look forward to for the innovators. Let’s discuss each of them:

  • The scheme aims to develop the 30 critical and advanced technologies that are needed for the national security of India. There is a tool called “Technology Watch Tool” to see the requirements of the technologies by the armed forces.
  • The first edition of the Scheme will cover the 17 challenges across the various branches of the Indian defence Agencies. The challenges distribution among the defence agencies of India:

  • Under the Scheme, the government will expand the iDEX assistance from Rs 1.5 Crore to Rs 10 crore to encourage young innovators and help them form their ideas into new technologies. 
  • The innovators will receive financial aid up to Rs 25 crore for the development of 50% of the product. 
  • The scheme strengthens the aim of self-reliance in defence production. With this initiative, the government is promoting indigenous technologies and talents to give their best and contribute to the ideology of Make In India. Maybe in the future, we can also export defence technologies to the world and become one of the key players in Defence technologies around the globe.

Eligibility of the ADITI scheme

The innovators or startups looking to take benefits of the scheme can check the following eligibility criteria to know if they are eligible for the ADITI scheme:

  • Your Startup should be recognized by the DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
  • The company must be embodied under the Companies Act 1956/2013. 
  • Individual innovators can also apply for the ADITI scheme. However, post-selection they have to register as a Startup/ MSME. 

How to apply for the ADITI Scheme?

To avail the benefit of the ADITI scheme, you must apply for the ADITI scheme by 4 April 2024. Follow the below steps to apply for the ADITI scheme:

  1. Go to the official website of iDEX.
  2. Scroll down to the “APPLY NOW” button in blue.
  3. Click on that, and the application form for the ADITI scheme will open on your screen.
  4. Now, fill out all the required details carefully, such as your category,  name, etc, and upload your pitch deck for the challenge you are going to work on. 
  5. Make sure you fill in all the details carefully and apply. 

Your application will be reviewed by the DIO-iDEX and after the due diligence, you will receive the final acceptance of the application.
