$970 Single Parent Payment – Eligibility, Amount & How to apply?

The highest benefit available to single parents is $970.20 per two weeks, plus a $27.80 pension supplement. You might also be eligible for rent assistance and an energy supplement. If you have a partner, the highest you can receive is $686.00 each fortnight.

Single Parent Payment

If you are under 66 and raising children alone, you may be eligible for the One-Parent Family Payment (OFP). Children who fall below a specific age are eligible for OFP. You can earn OFP while working. But to qualify for OFP, your income needs to be below a specific threshold.

The Parenting Payment is a means-tested government income support program for families with children. The amount of the payment fluctuates based on your income and the number of children you have.

The Parenting Payment is limited to one recipient per child and, for single parents, it used to expire after the child aged eight. However, as of May 2023, it has been stated that this will continue until the youngest child is 14.

You might be eligible for additional benefits in addition to Parenting benefits. Using your MyGov account, you can quickly apply for Parenting Payments, but you’ll need to submit supporting documentation. The payment entails reciprocal duties, but full-time employment is not required.

Who is eligible for Single Parent Payment?

Parenting payment is the primary form of economic support. Parents must fulfill a few conditions to be eligible for the benefits. This brief guide aims to give you a clearer idea of what the Australian government might be able to provide to you.

Single Parent Payment

  • Have assets and income below the required levels and you must pass the income test.
  • You must do child care (for single parents) under the age of 14.
  • You have to occupy an Australian residence.
  •  All requirements for Australian residency must be met.
  • The payment ends for single parents when their child becomes 14 (up from 8 years old, recently).
  • In the event of two parents, one of them must be designated as the primary caregiver.
  • Your ability to earn more money before having your payout lowered increases with the number of children you have.

You can make up to $214.60 per week if you have one child, after which your payout will be lowered. The total for two kids is $239.20. You can make $263.80 every two weeks if you have three kids, plus an extra $24.60 for each additional child.

Your payment will be lowered by 40 cents for each dollar over the income cap once you’ve reached those limitations. No matter how much money you make, you probably won’t be able to receive the Parenting Payment if you own your home because of the assets test.

How much can you get for ‘Single Parent Payment’?

The person who serves as a dependent child’s primary caregiver receives a parenting stipend. A primary caregiver is a person who is legally obligated to care for a kid (the primary caregiver for a young child). This might be:

  • A child’s natural or adoptive parent.
  • The step-parent of the kid.
  • A foster caretaker for a youngster.

Your income and assets will determine how much you receive in single-parent payments; at the moment, the maximum fortnightly payment for single parents is $970.20.

To qualify for this maximum amount, the recipient’s income must be at most $214.60 per fortnight (for one child) + $24.60 for each subsequent child. This is displayed in the table below, which is sourced from the Services Australia website.
